Richard Kelner, DMD
Dr. Richard Kelner graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, after which he became involved with the alumni association and booster club there. He attended the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for both his dental and periodontal degrees. He was not only a Chief Resident there as a post-doctoral student, but he also taught at the graduate and post-graduate school for over ten years. Additionally, he sat at the Board of Overseers for the School of Dentistry for five years.
Our periodontist is constantly taking post-graduate courses in his field of study and in general dentistry so he can stay aware of what his colleagues are doing at their practices. He also lectures locally about integrative medicine to the public, fellow dentists, and physicians. Other topics he speaks about include periodontal therapy and implants. Dr. Kelner has published a number of articles in his field and has lectured at major conferences, including the International Association of Dental Research. The Greater Westfield Dental Study Club is one of his projects where local dentists are exposed to the latest concepts in the various disciplines by regional dental experts. Since its inception, his function has been the Program Chair for this group.
Dr. Kelner has been a member of many organizations, including the New Jersey and American Academy of Periodontics as well as the America Dental Association. He has also been voted Top Dentist by Consumer Research several times. Dr. Kelner opened his original office in Clark in 1973. He was extremely proud to have his daughter, Dr. Danielle Kelner, join him in 2009.
Our periodontist’s goal is to try and maintain his patients’ natural dentition for as long as possible in a functional and esthetic position. When he isn’t at the office, Dr. Kelner enjoys collecting various things and uses them to help educate his grandchildren. He also loves gardening and cooking. You can find him in the kitchen or over the grill most weekends. Dr. Kelner and his wife met in school and have now been married for over 40 years. They have three great kids and seven wonderful grandchildren.
